What has been happening in school? Have a read 😊
We have been lucky and received free kit from the Monster Kickabout initiative as well as some fun activities for the field and playground!
We travelled to Shrewsbury Sports Village to take part in the activity morning which was organised by Louis Gray, our School Games Organiser and Panathlon. The children enjoyed 8 different sports stations along with 7 other schools from North Shropshire and received medals and certificates for taking part.
This week our Rota Kids met with Jenny Davies to discuss how Criftins CE Primary can support our local community. Collaborating with Ellesmere Rotary Club is exciting and continues to build on the work our school did last year.
Jane Webber came into Class 2 this afternoon and shared her Christmas in a Box session with the Year 1 and 2 pupils. Each box shared the story of a key figure in the Story of Christmas. The pupils had some little activities to complete after each box and were able to keep a keepsake from the session. They thoroughly enjoyed it and now have a deeper understanding of what they learnt.
10 of our children took part in a Kwik Cricket event today playing matches against Ellesmere College and Ellesmere Primary. They have all been practising at lunchtimes over the last few weeks and demonstrated great batting and fielding skills today.
We were invited by Reverend Gareth to visit the church war memorials, both in and outside of the church. We read out the names on the war memorial and found a separate gravestone for one of the soldiers. He died after returning to Criftins, aged 22.
Our visit was both interesting and poignant. These were real people who sacrificed their lives, so that we can be here today.
This year we are commemorating those lost during conflict. Each class has been looking at Remembrance, and understand how important it is to remember those who fought for our freedom.
We held a silence at 11 o’clock, then in the afternoon Reverend Gareth led a service alongside the Worship Team. We listened to The Last Post and to the names of those men of Criftins who had died in World War I.
Lest we forget.
We were excited to watch a performance by Shropshire Live Band who played us folk, rock, jazz and pop, and explained the instruments they were playing.
We had a fantastic collective worship this morning! Reverend Gareth came in to talk to the pupils about All Saints and the other seasons in the Christian calendar using his coloured hats. He shared some information about the saints such as St. Matthew and St. David. We have also been learning the Peruvian Glory song during every collective worship with Reverend Gareth and the pupils now know it really well.
We said a final goodbye to the incomparable Mrs. Jones who has given such dedication, strength, guidance and energy to Criftins for 16 years. The warmth on the childrens’ faces was wonderful to see. We will miss her enormously.
