Criftins Church of England Primary School

Sports Autumn 2024

All our children from Nursery to Year 6 took part in the Rudolph Relay in aid of Severn Hospice, running, walking, skipping and having fun wearing their Christmas jumpers and antlers. Thank you for all your kind donations!

Criftins School has received the Equal Access School Award for 2024 from the Barclays Girls' Football School Partnerships awarded by England Football for facilitating equal access for girls and boys to play football.

Children from Class 3 went to Thomas Adams for a morning of cricket organised by Louis Gray SGO and Darrell from Shropshire Cricket.  They played fun games with 3 other teams and practised their batting and fielding.

Six children took part in the Hockey tournament at the Marches School along with 6 other teams. They played some very close and competitive matches conceding very few goals.

Our Year 5/6 swimming team attended the Ellesmere Primary School Gala where they competed against other local schools: Ellesmere, Whittington, Welshampton and Newtown.

The team have recently finished their swimming sessions with the rest of Class 4 and were able to put their swimming skills to good use in a competitive way.

8 children enjoyed a morning at Shrewsbury Sports Village along with 7 schools from North Shropshire. The children took part in 8 different fun activities which involved different skills, the event was arranged by Louis Gray and Dom from Panathlon and run by students from Thomas Adams School.

Our team of 10 children went to Ellesmere College to take part in a Kwik Cricket event at Ellesmere College. We played 4 games and demonstrated great batting and fielding skills having been practising at lunchtime over the last few weeks.

Our KS2 children have all taken part in our inter-house Quicksticks Hockey competition.  They have played matches against one another resulting in a win for Wales, second place to Scotland, third was England and fourth place was Ireland.

The children showed great determination and passion for their games and the progression from their PE lessons to a competition is shown in their ability to play a competitive game illustrating their skills, sportsmanship and knowledge of the rules.

We have been lucky and have been sent some great free kit for the Monster Kickabout from Sports Direct along with some great suggested activities!

This Girl Can

This was an event hosted at the National Sports Centre, Lilleshall  and organised by Jake from Energize.

The girls took part in 5 workshops throughout the day: Squash, Archery, Cricket,  Boccia and Boxing.  This gave them a wonderful opportunity to experience different sports, they had a lovely day receiving medals and goody bags to round it off!

Criftins CE Primary School have elected their sports leaders for this year.  They will be the pupil voice in helping to make decisions regarding playground equipment, activities, clubs and will be helping to set up and run lunchtime activities along with assisting in running events that will be held in school.

Our cross country team ran with local schools in the first 2 of 4 meets. They produced some amazing runs divided into 4 groups with over 320 children running in total.

Our Year 3/4 girls and boys football teams travelled to Ellesmere Rangers Football ground to take part in the Brendan Wignall Football Festival run by Ellesmere Primary School. The teams each played 4 matches with the girls finishing in 2nd place and the boys in 3rd place.

Tag Rugby Festival at Oswestry Rugby Club was attended by seven children along with other local schools. The team played friendly matches with the guidance of the club coaches.

Fifteen children attended the Panathlon Ten Pin Bowling competition at the Hollywood Bowl in Shrewsbury, they split into 3 teams one of of which won the whole competition with 1 child gaining the top score of the day and another the top strike score. All the children took home a medal and a certificate after having a fabulous time!

A great start to our sporting year with the Kurling event at the Marches School. We sent two teams to the event and each team played 3 matches in the first round, one team qualified for the Trophy final and the other qualified for the Certificate final. They then played a further 3 games finishing in 4th place in the Trophy final and 1st place in the Certificate final. The teams worked brilliantly together with great communication and thinking carefully about their tactics.
