Criftins Church of England Primary School

Sports Autumn 2021

A team of children joined us from Cockshutt for a game of basketball this week. They had a great afternoon playing 4v4 matches with the children swapping in and out throughout the games. We had very well matched teams with a final result of 11-11.

We have had a great afternoon of dance today run by Chloe from Chloe Elizabeth Dance Studio based in Oswestry. Chloe taught each group a short dance routine and they then performed in front of the rest of their group, she is running a Christmas Dance Holiday Club - please go to www.cedc.co.uk to book.

SPORTS PREFECTS

Our elected Sports Leaders received their badges in front of the whole school, their main job is the represent all the children in our school by being their voice.  If children have ideas to improve playtime, would like some new equipment and to help organise and run events these are the children to talk to.

We have competed in the Schools 2021 Virgin Money Giving Mini London Marathon with 31 of our cross country runners managing to run 18.5 laps of the track to complete the 2.6 mile distance. The children ran it over the course of a few weeks during their cross country lunchtime sessions, we were amongst 500,000 children across the U.K. who were a part of this amazing event.  The children were presented with their certificates and badges in recognition of their achievements.

Inter House Hockey. The children from Years 5 and 6 competed in an intra school hockey competition today which was run over 2 weeks, the competition was very close, there was a tie for second place which had to be decided by goal difference.

Years 3 and 4 went to the Marches School for an inter-school mixed football tournament. They played some great matches finishing 2nd in the certificate final.

Two teams went to AMF Bowling in Shrewsbury where they competed against other teams from North Shropshire.  The event was organised by the Panathlon charity whose aim is to give children as many sporting experiences as possible. We were able to send a team of KS1 and KS2 children who had an amazing morning and were awarded medals and certificates which will be presented to them on Friday in Celebration Assembly.

A great afternoon of hockey at the Marches playing in another Inter-school competition. We took 2 teams who played against our local cluster schools and finished in 2nd and 3rd place.

A team of 6 children competed at the Inter-School Hockey tournament at the Marches School, they played 2 matches resulting in them qualifying for the Trophy final, they then played 2 more which resulted in them being placed 4th overall.  They played 10 minute matches with 4 on the pitch at a time and had a large area to cover with us being able to roll on and off substitutes to keep up the very fast pace of each match.

Sports Ambassador Elections.

A group of 8 children have put themselves forward to be elected as Sports Leaders. They introduced themselves to the KS 2 children and spoke about why they should be considered for the job. Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 were then able to vote for the person they thought would be best suited to represent them.

Our High Five Afterschool netball club takes place each week training the children ready for the inter school competition after Christmas. Mrs Hoos, a qualified netball coach, has taught the children skills and tactics to improve their knowledge and performance through games and match practice.

Cross Country Club

Cross Country Club - we have 35 children from Year 2 through to Year 6 who take part in the weekly cross country sessions. The sessions are split into class groups across 3 days and the children use the Daily Mile track to run on. There are 4 Cross Country competitions which will be run in the Spring term at the Marches School so we will continue to train over the winter months to improve fitness and performance.

Opening Schools Facilities Fund

We have been very fortunate to have received funding to help us to buy equipment to facilitate coaching, equipment and afterschool clubs which has already been put to good use!

The landing mat has been purchased for our after school Gymnastic Club and the photos show the children using it for the first time. This week they used it for some cardio and conditioning and to work on some skills, they had soooo much fun!

Our Football Club has proved to be a great success with 31 children signing up to learn new skills and for match practice ready for the forthcoming matches.

Year 3+4 Mixed Football Teams. Another afternoon at Whittington School where we played against Gobowen and Whittington A and B teams. This was a great practice for our upcoming tournaments next week.

A team of KS2 girls went to Oswestry School to compete in an inter- school football competition. They played 3 exciting matches and, for the first time playing as a team, did brilliantly, we will be working hard to build the team for future competitions.

KS1 Football - we took a team of 6 children to Whittington School to play 3 other teams in a friendly football festival. The children played 6 matches and all displayed enthusiasm and enjoyed their afternoon tremendously!

New Age Kurling - we had an amazing start to our 2021/22 sporting calendar with a double first at the Oswestry/Ellesmere cluster's Kurling competition. Our 2 teams got better and better as the competition progressed and 1 team went forward to the Certificates final and the 2nd team to the Trophy final. Both teams played some great games resulting in first place for them both in their respective finals! We look forward to being able to competing in more inter-school competitions!
