Criftins Church of England Primary School

The Rosemary Horton Award

In July 2022 The Mother's Union presented our school with a legacy fund in honour of Rosemary Horton.

Rosemary's commitment to Mother's Union was shown in the care and love she showed to the members in the north of Shropshire. She was a member of Welsh Frankton for 34 years and their branch leader from 2010-2021. She had also been Deanery leader and Salop Archdeaconry Vice President.

Rosemary was an advocate for young people and we knew her as a Grandmother to two of our pupils and a friend of the school for many years.   The Mother Union have given many financial gifts to the school of the years but the final one during COVID is the one we will remember the most warmly.   Rosemary was instrumental in helping us set up class worship boxes and resources for children to have Collective Worship in their bubbles.  These resources will support our school for many years to come and they are a constant reminder of the kindness in our community especially when times are challenging.

Rosemary is Pictured here with Bishop Alan when she was commissioned as Salop Archdeaconry, Vice President of Baschurch in 2004.

As Rosemary was an English teacher we have decided to spend the legacy funding each year on an inspirational visit from an author or poet.  Click on the page below to see some of the visitors we have had in school thanks to this funding.

In addition to the whole school fund each year we will choose a pupil who embodies our school values as a tribute to Rosemary and the legacy she left for us all.   This pupil is presented with a Rose Bowl in our annual leavers service.

Heritage is very important in our school and we hope you enjoy looking at the lasting impact a life can have on the children today.
