Criftins Church of England Primary School

Sports Autumn 2026

We were able to take 2 teams to Ellesmere College from Years 5 and 6 to play football against 2 of their teams.

It was wonderful to be able to get 12 children out to play in a competitive match and has inspired them to attend our free Friday lunchtime football club, both matches finished with the teams drawing, another great result.

The Year 3 and 4 mixed football team have also been busy competing at the Marches School along with 7 other schools from our local cluster finishing in 3rd place which was a great achievement as some of the children are new to the game!

This week is an action packed week of sport with our archery competition and inter-school football.

The first football competition took place at Oswestry School along with Whittington, Morda, Packwood, Oswestry A and B, Holy Trinity, Moreton and the Meadows.  This was the first competition for our team and they played some great games winning 4, drawing 1 and narrowly losing 3.  Well done to you all!

Our mornings continue to begin with Wake and Shake at 8.40am with KS2 children playing Dodgeball, it’s a great start to the day and the children’s catching and throwing skills continue to improve.

MMAT Archery Competition. Our archery team competed in a virtual competition with other Trust schools, they had a great afternoon and their archery skills improved throughout the afternoon.

Congratulations to our four newly elected Sports Leaders! Ten pupils put themselves up for election, they all presented themselves brilliantly to the KS2 pupils who then voted for the four that they thought would best represent them. We look forward to them helping with lunchtime activities, inter-school activities, inter house competitions and being a big part of our pupil voice.

Victory to our New Age Kurling Team! We took 8 children to compete in the Inter-school New Age Kurling competition at the Marches School. They played against 7 other teams showing great teamwork and determination. Well done!

Inter School Athletics Competition

Our school sports calendar has begun with 20 children taking part in our first competition!

A team from KS1 and KS2 took part in a MMAT event whereby our team scores are put forward with other Trust Schools for an inter-school competition.

We had 10 children from each Key Stage take part in Long Jump, Speed Bounce, Chest Push and Shuttle Run.

We look forward to finding out the result!
