Sports Summer 2026
Our last post for this year is the medal presentations to our year group winners from Sports Day 2026. Congratulations to you all! The final house point sports total for the year from all our intra sports competitions is 1st Ireland, 2nd Wales, 3rd England and 4th Scotland.
Our final week with coach Neil, from Shrewsbury Town Football Club who has been delivering ‘Read the Game’. This programme uses the power of football to inspire learning within the classroom. Each child receives a unique Shrewsbury Town Football Club workbook that has been designed by experts of the educational sector, to complete the classroom section of each session. The programme also includes an hour outdoor football skills session. The children have, today, demonstrated the skills they have learnt over the previous weeks, played some fun activities, practised their dribbling skills and ended the pe session with a match where they were able to put all their new skills into practice.
A great start to School Sports Week at Criftins Primary School with a sports enrichment morning for our children from Reception to Year 6. We were joined by 2 coaches from the 4allfoundation and the children took part in axe throwing, Outdoor Adventure Activities working on teamwork, fencing, archery and football golf. The children have taken so much from their sports morning, they have demonstrated teamwork, passion, determination, respect, honesty and self- belief and most importantly had a fun morning by being active.
Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 girls took part in an all girls cricket event at Whittington Cricket Club, organised by Louis Gray our SGO, they played games which allowed them to practise their cricketing skills and above all else-have fun!
Queensway
We enjoyed another year at the Queensway track in Wrexham where we joined 16 other schools for a day of field and track events. Children form Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 took part in sprint, relays and distance races, vertical high jump, long jump and throwing. Criftins finished in 2nd place in the small schools section of the event.
Our new equipment has arrived for the Playhers Programme which offers girls a recreational introduction to football in a safe and supportive environment. We aim to use the equipment and activities to help develop fundamental football skills such as passing, dribbling, shooting, defending and attacking through fun games and activities on a Wednesday lunchtime for Years 3,4,5 and 6.
Coach Neil has joined us for six weeks to deliver Reading The Game Programme through the Shrewsbury Town Foundation. This half term Year 5/6 will be taking part in the ‘Reading the Game’ programme with Shrewsbury Town in the Community. The programme captures the motivational power of football and sport to inspire young people to read more and improve their English skills. It delivers the statutory requirements of the new national curriculum. ‘Reading The Game’ is a 6 week (12 hour) programme. Each session is split, 1⁄2 classroom based and 1/2 practical based. Classroom sessions are teacher led using STFC resources and supported by STFC coaches and volunteers. Practical sessions are led by sport teachers or Afpe qualified coaches.
Final Practice today for the Year 6 and Year 2 Archery teams in readiness for the Marches Trust Virtual competition which is due to be held in the next few weeks!
Year 5 and 6 Inter-house Dodgeball Tournament took place with a win for England - well done to all the teams!
Wake and Shake continues throughout the year with Dodgeball games in the hall, Yoga and Dance in the classrooms. The children choose the activity that they would like to join each morning as a great active starter to the day ready to learn.
Shropshire Primary Schools Half Marathon 2026
We have, for the 3rd year running, a team of 20 children from KS2 entered into the Shropshire Primary Schools Half Marathon. It enables children to compete in their very own cumulative half marathon on race weekend.
The first 12 miles of the challenge have been completed at school, and the final 1.1 miles are run at the West Mid Showground with hundreds of excited spectators cheering the children home!
Schools Gymnastics at Border Counties
We joined other schools in a gymnastics competition at Border Counties, Oswestry, the team performed a floor routine and vault to finish in 4th place. They performed confidently, demonstrating perseverance, courage and determination - well done!
