KS1 had a brilliant afternoon playing in an inter house Dodgeball Tournament with our new set of Dodgeballs.   It was an hour and a half of fast and furious competition in the school hall with everyone playing for house points to go towards the Spring term total.

The results were a tie for first place between Ruby and Emerald with 70 points each, third was Diamond with 60 points and 4th with 40 points was Sapphire.

I had an inspiring morning with our key stage 2 pupils today. Reading, writing, questioning, PEE and morpho, it was educating! Have a look at some photos, they didn't even notice I was there. Happy, safe and learning! Well done!

We ran our annual indoor athletics as usual this year. We had 2 teams from Welshampton, 2 from Cockshutt and we put 2 teams forward from Criftins too. It was a great afternoon of friendly competition involving field events; speed bounce, long jump, target throw, javelin and ball throw followed by the track events with a variety of individual and team running races.

    The results were close;

    1st place Criftins Lions

    2nd place Cockshutt 1

    3rd place Welshampton 1

    4th place Criftins Tigers

    5th place Cockshutt 2

    6th place Welshampton 2

Thanks also go to our Year 5 and 6 junior leaders whose help during the afternoon was very much appreciated.

    Well done to everybody!

  • Presentation Progress

Tue 21 Mar 2017 Mandy Jones

Ofsted gave us a target last year which focused on improving presentation in books.  They complimented our rich curriculum and said how independent the children were. Our next challenge was to ensure the children took pride in their presentation throughout their work at all times without compromising our curriculum.

We have rewarded good presentation in classes, we have set instructions in place to support presentation and I believe now we are beginning to reap the benefits of this whole school push for excellence.

I have had had a great day looking in detail at the children's written work.  Have a look at the photos to see for yourself.  Maybe next time you visit on parents evening you could take a few moments to comment in your child's book about the quality of their work.

  • Exciting morning observing writing

Sun 12 Mar 2017 Mandy Jones

This year as part of our school development focus on writing I have had the privilege of observing writing throughout the school on a regular basis.  Observing writing has involved: children bringing their work to share with me; talking to children about their lessons and progress; looking at progress in books with the teaching staff and Governors and sitting in lessons seeing how it all happens.

As Head teacher of the school going into lessons is my favourite bit because this is where the magic happens.    The children are relaxed, focused, happy, motivated and therefore learning.  This week I had the pleasure of visiting class one and two.  It is amazing to look at how children progress from their point of entry to Criftins to year three.  Our two fabulous teachers  take the children on an exciting journey whilst developing their key skills each step of the way.

Have a look at the photos to see the visit from the 'Greenling' and the day 'Mr Large was left to look after the children'.

  • A big thank you to the Ellesmere Ladies Circle

Sat 11 Mar 2017 Mandy Jones

We received a letter yesterday to say that the Ellesmere Ladies Circle would be donating £200 pounds for the purchase of weather proof beanbags to further develop our outdoor learning.  As a county we are facing serious funding issues in schools, the work of local organisations is a real blessing as we want to keep our fantastic school moving forward, for the benefit of all our children.

Thank you you to all those ladies who commit to making the community better for all of us.

    Photos to follow!
